Ellie's thoughts

Ellie has said a few interesting things lately that have not only made me giggle inside but also think a bit...  A child's mind is so precious.

Several weeks ago, President Obama was speaking on television.  Ellie saw him and said something about his "tan skin".  She had friends at school of all cultural backgrounds and has never considered any of them different than her.  It has been quite amazing to watch her grow up and never once ask about why people have different color skin.  But, this day she did say something about Obama's skin.  I commented back to her that he was the first president of the United States to have "tan skin".

She said, "how do you know?"
I said, "I just do".
She said, "Does Obama know that?"
I said, "Yes."
She said, "Who told him?"

Speaks for itself, huh?

The next Ellie thought happened last night:
I was putting her to bed and we were talking about Jesus.  We were talking about how nice Jesus was and how so many people were lucky to be alive when he was.  We talked about how Jesus is coming again someday and she said she hoped it was when she was alive.  At some point our conversation turned to the idea of "did Jesus have a pet"?  I said that I wondered if he liked cats.  Ellie thought for a minute and smiled and then said, "Well, only if he wasn't allergic to them!"  We both laughed at that and decided that we were sure that Jesus would not be allergic to cats.  Then she said, "What if he's allergic to peanuts?"  I said, "well then he couldn't sit next to you at lunch time, then!"  (since she eats peanut butter just about everyday for lunch).  Again we decided that God would make sure that Jesus wasn't allergic to anything.

But who knows, right?
